This is an unscheduled blog post.
I did do my assignment blog this morning and I marketed as much as I could and I spent 1 ½ hours in the car listening to Dave and Dave from my Inner Circle recordings and I did some reading about driving traffic…
And by the way did my 8 hours at work. So, it was a pretty busy day.
When I leave work I turn left onto the street and there is a large intersection at the light. It is one of those Grand Avenue intersections (if you live in Phoenix you know what I mean). There are five roads feeding into the intersection.
The railroad track crosses North to South and the road I was on goes East to West.
So before I can cross the road at the light, I have to cross the tracks. There are lights that warn when a train is coming, but no other obstructions.
So I usually pull up to the tracks and past the tracks, just before the pedestrian crosswalk, but before the North to South road. That way if a train does come I can cross the road when the light turns green and not have to wait for the train which at that point would be behind me.
Tonight was no different. The light was red so I crossed the track and stopped before the pedestrian crosswalk. As I crossed the track and stopped I realized that the track was really near the back of my car…and I waited for the light to turn green.
Yes, you can guess what happened. I heard the train whistle! About the same time I started getting uncomfortable about the back of my car. So I started pulling forward in the crosswalk. The light was still red and the train was really close! Then I realized that when I have been waiting for the train the red light STAYS red after the train until the other traffic has passed.
It is dark and the train is moving FAST and I don’t know where the back of my car is.
I see the train…very close, maybe close enough to hit me.
I couldn’t cross against the red light and the traffic so I did the next best thing and make a right turn.
O M G
As I turned I realized that the tracks crossed right in front of me! I hadn’t turned away from the train I had turned directly INTO the train.
I was committed I couldn’t stop and I was wondering what it would feel like when the train hit me?
I floored the car and I crossed the track. The train missed me by inches.
So I cheated death. He may be close by waiting to swish his scythe, and sooner or later he may get me, but tonight I ducked under.
So there you go. What fate looked kindly at me tonight, kissed me on the head and said, “not yet.” And why me?
That question is asked by many victims of disasters when they survive and others don’t. Unanswerable questions. I remember a comic book from my youth about four men who had cheated death and they risked their lives to help others because they should have died and they were living on borrowed time.
What I learned tonight was that you had better live everyday like it is your last. Have NO regrets if you don’t finish the day. Kiss and hug your loved ones. Pet the dog. Donate to charity. Give the homeless guy some money. Make a child smile.
I have been told that I can’t get into Heaven if I don’t accept this or believe that. I would like to think that if I don’t wake up tonight I will be judged on my actions.
If you are no happy where you are in life, whether it is spiritual or financial, my advice is to do something about it NOW, change what you are unhappy about NOW, because fate may not be so kind the next time…
